Written By Mark Weston, August 2,1992

UNAME2 is a conversion program for LANALYZER which turns a NetWare USERLIST file into a name file for
the LANALYZER.
UNAME2, UNAMER and UNAMEF are offered as shareware. If you use these programs, please register with
the author. Please send a cheque or money order for $8.00 to

UNAMER.BAT Automated Conversion Batch File
README The file you are reading
These three programs should be copied into the \XLN\LANZ directory, where the .nam files are located.
The UNAME2 utility take as its input a text file which is derived from the USERLIST /A command. It
disassembles this listing into valid names and addresses, which it modifies to conform to LANZNAME format.
At that point, LANZNAME can be used to convert the new text file into a LANALYZER 'NAM' file.
To produce an input file, log into the server you will be monitorring, and execute the following command.
USERLIST /A >FILENAME.TXT
Note: The resultant file created by USERLIST /A will contain additional information not pertinent to the
objective of this utility. All extraneous information is disgarded.
The word 'FILENAME.TXT' can be substituted with any name you wish. Now that you have a file to convert,
use the UNAME2 utility to make it LANZNAME compatible. Run the UNAME2 utility by typing;
UNAME
You will be asked for the name of the file you created using the USERLIST command. UNAME2 checks to
verify that you have entered the name of a valid file, and will ask you to try again if you have not typed the
filename correctly. Next, you are prompted for an output filename. Once entered, UNAME2 saves a new text
file that is LANZNAME compatible. You can now run the LANZNAME utility to create a 'NAM' file. Note:
The UNAME2 and UNAMEF utilities will strip out ARCNET addresses as invalid, a byproduct of running
UNAME2 here on my own network.
LANZNAME INPUTFILE OUTPUTFILE
Normally, you would advise LANZNAME that you are specifying a NETWORK file using the /Fnetwork string.
LANZNAME /Fnetwork INPUTFILE OUTPUTFILE
UNAME2 automatically names the file as a network file, so you don't need to worry about that when you execute
LANZNAME.
The other utility that is supplied, UNAMEF, automates the entire process for you, from running UNAME2 to
creating a valid 'NAM' file. UNAMEF works in conjunction with the UNAMER.BAT program also found in
the ZIP file.
Once again, you will use the USERLIST command to create a base text file. When we execute UNAMER, it
expects an input file without an extension. If you specify a filename WITH an extension, the extension will be
stripped off. Therefore, don't use an extension when you run the USERLIST command.
USERLIST /A >CLIENT1 Valid
USERLIST /A >CLIENT1.TXT Not Valid
Note: The resultant file created by USERLIST /A will contain additional information not pertinent to the
objective of this utility. All extraneous information is disgarded.
To convert the new file TEXTFILE into a LANALYZER name file, copy the file into the \XLN\LANZ directory
of your LANALYZER system. Now execute the UNAMER utility, as follows. Note: The UNAME2 and
UNAMEF utilities will strip out ARCNET addresses as invalid, a byproduct of running UNAME2 here on my
own network.
UNAMER CLIENT1
The UNAMER batch file executes UNAMEF on the CLIENT1 file to produce a temporary file called
TEMPFILE.UNM. It then runs the LANZNAME program to convert TEMPFILE.UNM into CLIENT1.NAM.
This newest file, CLIENT1.NAM can be loaded into the NAME screen in the LANZ program and used like any
other name file.
If you use these utilities, please register with the author. This ensures that you will receive updates to the
utilities, as well as supporting our efforts to produce inexpensive software that works. Thank you.
